CVE-2018-4990 is a double-free vulnerability in Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader (Acrobat/Reader DC 2018.011.20038 and earlier; 2017.011.30079 and earlier; Classic 2015 2015.006.30417 and earlier). The flaw can be triggered by opening a specially crafted PDF containing a crafted JPEG2000 image; in the observed exploit chain, embedded JavaScript manipulated a PDF object (Button1) holding the JPEG2000 to trigger the double-free, then used heap-spraying and ROP (notably leveraging gadgets in the EScript.api plugin) to execute native shellcode and run an embedded PE payload, achieving code execution in the context of the current user.

A double-free memory corruption vulnerability in Adobe Acrobat/Reader that can be triggered via a specially crafted PDF, leading to remote code execution when the file is opened.
A previously unknown Adobe Reader/Acrobat remote code execution vulnerability (double-free in handling a crafted JPEG2000 image embedded in a PDF) exploited via embedded JavaScript to gain memory read/write primitives and execute native shellcode (via ROP), ultimately running an embedded PE payload.
