CVE-2018-9948 is an information disclosure vulnerability in Foxit Reader 9.0.0.29935. The vulnerability exists due to improper initialization of a pointer when handling typed arrays. This flaw can be triggered when a user opens a malicious file or visits a malicious page, allowing an attacker to read sensitive information from memory. The vulnerability may also be leveraged in combination with other vulnerabilities to achieve code execution.

This repository contains a single Metasploit module (modules/exploits/windows/fileformat/foxit_reader_uaf.rb) that exploits use-after-free and uninitialized pointer vulnerabilities (CVE-2018-9948, CVE-2018-9958) in Foxit PDF Reader v9.0.1.1049. The exploit is weaponized, allowing the attacker to generate a malicious PDF file ('test.pdf' by default). When a target opens this PDF in a vulnerable Foxit Reader on Windows 7 or Windows 10 (with specific configurations), a ROP chain is executed, leading to code execution and delivery of a customizable payload (default: windows/meterpreter/reverse_tcp). The exploit leverages an SMB share to host the payload executable, which is referenced in the malicious PDF. The module is highly configurable, allowing the attacker to specify the SMB share, payload executable name, and payload type. The code is written in Ruby and is structured as a standard Metasploit exploit module, making it easy to use within the Metasploit framework.
