CVE-2019-10098 is an open-redirect vulnerability in Apache HTTP Server mod_rewrite affecting versions 2.4.0 through 2.4.39. Certain rewrite rules configured to issue self-referential redirects can be confused by encoded newline characters in a request. The resulting pattern match or substitution can resolve to an attacker-controlled, unexpected URL embedded in the request rather than the intended local destination. Apache HTTP Server 2.4.41 corrected the behavior by enabling the PCRE_DOTALL flag by default, preventing unpredictable matching and substitution involving encoded line-break characters.
