CVE-2019-11599 is a missing-synchronization race condition in Linux kernel ELF core-dump handling. In affected kernels, coredump processing can iterate virtual memory areas (VMAs) without preventing concurrent changes to VMA layout or flags. Concurrent userfaultfd-related operations can merge or remove VMAs while elf_core_dump() processes them, resulting in use-after-free behavior. Changes to the VMA count can also desynchronize allocation and later use of coredump bookkeeping, producing uninitialized-data disclosure, out-of-bounds reads, and constrained out-of-bounds writes in favorable conditions. The issue affects upstream Linux kernels before 5.0.10, with stable fixes included in 4.14.114, 4.19.37, and 5.0.10.
