CVE-2019-1978 is a filtering bypass vulnerability in the stream reassembly component of Cisco Firepower Threat Defense (FTD) Software, Cisco FirePOWER Services Software for ASA, and Cisco Firepower Management Center (FMC) Software. According to Cisco, the issue is caused by improper reassembly of traffic streams. An unauthenticated remote attacker can send crafted traffic streams through an affected device so that the device incorrectly reassembles the stream and fails to apply filtering protections as intended. As a result, malicious requests that should have been blocked can traverse the security device and reach protected downstream systems.
