CVE-2019-2697 is a vulnerability in the Oracle Java SE 2D component affecting Java SE 7u211 and 8u202. It is described as difficult to exploit and reachable by an unauthenticated attacker over the network via multiple protocols. The issue is relevant to Java client-side deployments that load and execute untrusted code while depending on the Java sandbox for isolation, particularly sandboxed Java Web Start applications and sandboxed Java applets in Java SE 8. The vulnerability does not apply to deployments that execute only trusted, administrator-installed code. Successful exploitation can compromise the Java runtime environment and lead to takeover of Java SE, indicating a sandbox bypass or similar security boundary failure within the client-side execution model.
