AnchorFree VPN SDK versions before 1.3.3.218 expose a service on a localhost-bound socket that accepts certain executable locations. An attacker able to interact with this socket can provide the path to a malicious executable, which the service executes with SYSTEM privileges.

This repository provides a proof-of-concept exploit for CVE-2020-12828, a vulnerability in the AnchorFree VPN SDK as used in Bitdefender Total Security 2020 (version 1.2.13.81) on Windows 7/10. The exploit is implemented in a single Python script (CVE-2020-12828.py), which connects to the local vpnservice.exe process via TCP port 52217 and sends a crafted JSON payload. This payload instructs the service to execute an arbitrary executable (specified by the attacker) with SYSTEM privileges, effectively allowing privilege escalation. The exploit requires local access to the target machine and the vulnerable service to be running and listening on the expected port. The repository also includes a README and a LICENSE file. No detection scripts or fake code are present; the code is a functional local privilege escalation proof-of-concept.
