CVE-2020-13973 is a cross-site scripting vulnerability in OWASP json-sanitizer versions prior to 1.2.1. The issue arises when sanitized JSON output is embedded as JavaScript inside an HTML SCRIPT element. If an attacker can control a substring of the input JSON and also control another substring adjacent to the surrounding SCRIPT element, they may be able to confuse the HTML parser about where the SCRIPT element terminates. This can cause content that should be treated as non-script data to instead be interpreted and executed as JavaScript in the victim's browser.
