CVE-2020-14386 is a Linux kernel memory-corruption vulnerability affecting kernels before 5.9-rc4. In the AF_PACKET receive path, tpacket_rcv adds the user-influenced packet-reserve value to the unsigned-short netoff value without adequate bounds handling. The resulting integer overflow can cause a subsequent offset calculation to reference memory before the start of the packet buffer. When virtual network-header handling is enabled, this enables an attacker-controlled out-of-bounds write of 1 to 10 bytes before that buffer.

This repository provides a proof-of-concept (PoC) exploit for CVE-2020-14386, a Linux kernel vulnerability affecting packet sockets. The main exploit is implemented in C (cve-cap-net-raw.c), which sets up user and network namespaces, manipulates raw packet sockets, and sends crafted packets to the loopback interface to trigger the vulnerability. The exploit is wrapped in a Bash script (wrapper.sh) that provides user-friendly output and timing, and is packaged in a Docker container for easy deployment in Kubernetes/OpenShift environments. The repository also includes a configuration file (50-reset-crio-capabilities.conf) to mitigate the vulnerability by dropping the CAP_NET_RAW capability from default container configurations. The README provides instructions for deploying the exploit as a pod in a Kubernetes cluster and describes expected outcomes. The exploit is local in nature, requiring execution on the target node, and is intended to test whether a node is vulnerable by observing if it crashes or reboots upon running the exploit.
