CVE-2020-14974 is a local privilege escalation vulnerability in the IObit Unlocker 1.1.2 helper driver. The driver exposes a device interface with overly permissive access controls, allowing low-privileged users to send crafted requests directly to the driver. Through IOCTL 0x222124, an unprivileged caller can invoke the driver's unlock functionality, which terminates processes holding handles to a target file, including processes running with SYSTEM privileges. The vulnerable design bypasses the client application's elevation prompt because access enforcement is not performed in the driver itself. The issue stems from unsafe privileged functionality being exposed to untrusted users through a broadly accessible device object.
