A buffer overflow vulnerability exists in ActiveMediaServer.exe of ACTi NVR3 Standard Server version 3.0.12.42. Remote, unauthenticated attackers can exploit this flaw by sending a specially crafted payload, resulting in a buffer overflow and subsequent application termination.

This repository contains a proof-of-concept exploit for CVE-2020-15956, targeting ACTi NVR3 Standard/Professional Server and ACTi NVR Professional Server on Windows. The exploit is implemented in Python (cve-2020-15956.py) and works by sending a malformed HTTP Basic Auth header with a 760-byte null byte payload to the /Media/UserGroup/login endpoint of the target server. This triggers a buffer overflow in the server's authentication handler, causing the ActiveMediaServer.exe process to crash and resulting in a denial of service. The script first verifies the target by querying /media/Product/getProductInfo, then repeatedly sends the malicious request. The README.md provides usage instructions, affected versions, and expected outcome. No hardcoded IPs or domains are present; the target is specified as a command-line argument.
