Acronis True Image 2019 Update 1 through 2021 Update 1 for macOS contains an insecure XPC service configuration. A local attacker may exploit the improperly secured service to escalate privileges.

This repository contains a single Metasploit module: 'acronis_trueimage_xpc_privesc.rb', which exploits a local privilege escalation vulnerability (CVE-2020-25736) in Acronis TrueImage for macOS (versions 2019 update 1 through 2021 update 1). The exploit leverages the insecure XPC helper tool 'com.acronis.trueimagehelper', which allows arbitrary clients to execute functions as root without proper validation. The module checks for the presence of the vulnerable helper tool and the application plist to determine version information. It then writes a payload (default: osx/x64/meterpreter/reverse_tcp) to a writable directory (default: /tmp), compiles or uploads an exploit binary, and executes it to gain root privileges. The exploit is operational, providing a root shell or meterpreter session if successful. The code is written in Ruby and is designed to be used within the Metasploit framework.
