CVE-2020-27904 is a memory-corruption vulnerability in the macOS Kernel affecting macOS Big Sur before 11.0.1. It was attributed to a logic issue and remediated through improved state management. The issue is also characterized as a use-after-free condition addressed through improved memory management. Reported impacts differ: an application may be able to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges, while another characterization states that a remote attacker may be able to cause a denial of service.

This repository contains a full exploit for CVE-2020-27904, a kernel vulnerability in macOS 10.15.x and below, which allows local privilege escalation to kernel task (tfp0). The exploit is written in C and is organized into two main directories: 'exploit-1' (containing the main exploit logic and AppleDouble/xattr manipulation code) and 'mylib' (containing supporting kernel and utility routines). The exploit works by creating and mounting a specially crafted FAT32 disk image, manipulating extended file attributes to trigger an out-of-bounds swap in the kernel, and ultimately obtaining a kernel task port. The provided Python script 'run-exploit.py' automates the build, disk image creation, mounting, and execution steps. The exploit is operational and provides a working tfp0 primitive, but intentionally leaves kernel heap cleanup as an exercise for the user, and will cause a kernel panic after execution. The exploit targets macOS 10.15.x and below, and is not effective on Big Sur (11.0) or later, where the vulnerability is patched.
