CVE-2020-5741 is an insecure deserialization vulnerability in Plex Media Server on Windows. Plex Media Server versions earlier than 1.19.3 deserialize untrusted data in a manner that allows a remote authenticated attacker to execute arbitrary Python code in the context of the Plex Media Server process.

This repository contains a single Metasploit module (modules/exploits/windows/http/plex_unpickle_dict_rce.rb) that exploits CVE-2020-5741, a remote code execution vulnerability in Plex Media Server for Windows (versions prior to 1.19.3). The exploit leverages an unsafe Python pickle.load operation on a Dict file in a user-created photo library. The attacker must be authenticated (possess a valid X-Plex-Token) and the target server must have Camera Upload enabled. The module creates a new photo library, uploads a maliciously crafted Dict file containing a Python Meterpreter reverse shell payload, changes the Plex LocalAppDataPath to trigger unpickling, and restarts the server to execute the payload. The exploit is weaponized, allowing customizable payloads via Metasploit, and provides remote code execution as the Plex user. The main attack vector is network-based, targeting the Plex HTTP API endpoints. The code is written in Ruby and is structured as a standard Metasploit exploit module.
