CVE-2020-7461 is a heap-based buffer overflow in FreeBSD dhclient(8) when parsing DHCP option 119, the Domain Search Option. Affected versions calculate the uncompressed domain-list length without handling certain malformed input correctly, allocate an inadequately sized buffer, and overflow that heap buffer while copying the uncompressed list. The flaw affects FreeBSD 12.1-STABLE before r365010, 11.4-STABLE before r365011, 12.1-RELEASE before p9, 11.4-RELEASE before p3, and 11.3-RELEASE before p13.

This repository contains a proof-of-concept (PoC) exploit for CVE-2020-7461, a heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability in FreeBSD's dhclient when parsing DHCP option 119 (domain search, RFC 3397). The main file, 'dhclient_poc.py', is a Python script that implements a malicious DHCP server using Scapy. When a vulnerable FreeBSD dhclient connects to this server, the script sends a specially crafted DHCP response with a malformed option 119, triggering the vulnerability. The script allows configuration of the network interface, DHCP pool, subnet, gateway, and domain via command-line arguments. The README provides background on the vulnerability and references the FreeBSD security advisory. The repository is structured with a license, a README, and the exploit script. No detection or fake code is present; this is a functional PoC exploit targeting network-facing FreeBSD dhclient clients.
