phpList 3.5.0 is vulnerable to an authentication bypass due to improper comparison of password hashes during admin login. The application uses the '==' operator instead of '===' when comparing the stored password hash with the user-supplied hash. This allows an attacker to exploit PHP's type juggling behavior, particularly with hashes that start with '0e' followed by only digits, which PHP interprets as scientific notation for zero. As a result, a malicious user can craft a password that, when hashed, matches the type-juggled value of the stored hash, thereby bypassing authentication.
