CVE-2020-8982 is a critical unauthenticated arbitrary file read vulnerability in Citrix ShareFile StorageZones Controller, affecting all versions including 5.10.x as of May 2020. The vulnerability arises from improper limitation of a pathname to a restricted directory (CWE-22), allowing attackers to perform path traversal attacks. Exploitability is determined by the version used during the initial setup of a storage zone—specifically, if it was created with versions 5.9.0, 5.8.0, 5.7.0, 5.6.0, 5.5.0, or earlier. The vulnerability enables attackers to read arbitrary files and potentially achieve remote code execution (RCE) on both on-premise and Citrix Cloud-hosted ShareFile deployments, regardless of subsequent upgrades.
