CVE-2020-9801 is a logic issue in Safari, present prior to version 13.1.1, where insufficient restrictions allowed a malicious process to cause Safari to launch an arbitrary application. The vulnerability is due to improper enforcement of application launch policies within Safari's process handling.

This repository contains a single Metasploit module: 'Safari in Operator Side Effect Exploit' (modules/exploits/osx/browser/safari_in_operator_side_effect.rb). The module targets multiple vulnerabilities in Apple Safari and macOS (CVE-2020-9850, CVE-2020-9856, CVE-2020-9801) to achieve arbitrary code execution on a victim's Mac. The exploit leverages a type confusion in Safari's JavaScript engine (triggered via the 'in' operator and PDF plugin), then chains a heap overflow in the CVM Server and a sandbox escape to run a payload as the user outside of Safari's sandbox. The module serves a malicious web page to the victim, who must visit it with a vulnerable Safari browser. The exploit supports multiple payload types, with the default being a Meterpreter reverse shell. The only fingerprintable endpoint is the file path '/var/db/CVMS', where the payload is dropped on the target. The code is written in Ruby (Metasploit module) and JavaScript (browser exploit). This is a weaponized, operational exploit suitable for real-world attacks, provided the target is vulnerable.
