CVE-2021-20617 is an improper access control and OS command injection vulnerability in the initialization functionality of acmailer 4.0.1 and earlier and acmailer DB 1.1.3 and earlier. The issue is present in init_ctl.cgi, where the application processes a POST request parameter, sendmail_path, and passes it unsafely into a shell command equivalent to ls -l $FORM{sendmail_path}. Because the parameter is not safely handled, a remote attacker can inject shell metacharacters and execute arbitrary OS commands on the underlying host. The available analysis indicates the flaw is exploitable without authentication as long as init_ctl.cgi remains accessible on the deployed server.
