CVE-2021-23177 is an improper link-resolution vulnerability in libarchive before version 3.5.2 on Linux. During archive extraction, libarchive applies ACLs through acl_set_file() without first ensuring that the archive entry is not a symbolic link. Because Linux does not support ACLs on symbolic links, ACL application follows the link and modifies the ACLs of the symlink target. A crafted archive can therefore cause ACL changes to an unintended local file when extracted.
