CVE-2021-26291 is an origin-validation flaw in Apache Maven's legacy dependency-resolution behavior. Maven follows repository definitions declared in a dependency's Project Object Model (POM), potentially causing a build to retrieve artifacts from an unanticipated repository. An attacker that compromises, impersonates, or intercepts such a referenced repository can substitute malicious artifacts, creating a software supply-chain compromise risk. Apache Maven 3.8.1 and later no longer follow non-SSL HTTP repository references by default.
