CVE-2021-35937 is a time-of-check/time-of-use race condition in RPM's validation of unsafe symbolic links during package installation or update. A local attacker able to manipulate a relevant installation path can race RPM's symlink safety checks and replace an object after validation, bypassing protections introduced for earlier RPM symlink vulnerabilities. The resulting path resolution can cause privileged RPM operations to affect an unintended, root-owned target.
