CVE-2021-35938 is a local time-of-check to time-of-use race condition in RPM during package installation. RPM performs ownership, permission, and file-capability operations after installing a file. An attacker able to replace the installed filesystem object in this interval with a symbolic link can redirect those privileged operations to a security-critical target file. The flaw is part of a related set of RPM symlink and race-condition vulnerabilities.
