CVE-2021-36090 is a denial-of-service vulnerability in the ZIP package of Apache Commons Compress. While processing a specially crafted ZIP archive, an insufficient symbolic-link length validation in an array allocation-and-fill operation can cause the library to allocate excessive memory despite a small archive input. The resulting memory exhaustion can trigger an out-of-memory condition in an application that processes attacker-controlled ZIP files.
