CVE-2021-37343 is a path traversal vulnerability in the AutoDiscovery component of Nagios XI versions prior to 5.8.5. The flaw allows an authenticated attacker to traverse directories and potentially achieve remote code execution under the security context of the user running Nagios (typically the Apache user). This vulnerability is one of several discovered by Claroty Team82, and can be chained with other vulnerabilities for full system compromise.

This repository contains a single Metasploit module (modules/exploits/linux/http/nagios_xi_autodiscovery_webshell.rb) that exploits a path traversal vulnerability (CVE-2021-37343) in Nagios XI versions 5.2.0 through 5.8.4. The exploit requires valid administrator credentials for the Nagios XI web interface. It works by abusing the autodiscovery job creation feature, injecting a path traversal in the job ID to write a PHP web shell to a web-accessible directory. The module then uses this web shell to execute arbitrary commands as the www-data user, providing either a Meterpreter session or a reverse shell to the attacker. The module cleans up after itself by deleting the web shell and the malicious autodiscovery job by default. The main endpoints involved are the autodiscovery job handler and the directory where the web shell is placed. The code is written in Ruby and is fully integrated into the Metasploit framework, making it a weaponized exploit.
