CVE-2021-4037 is an incorrect permission-assignment vulnerability in Linux kernel XFS file creation. It is a regression related to CVE-2018-13405: XFS did not consistently use the generic inode ownership initialization behavior when creating non-directory files in SGID directories. Consequently, a locally writable SGID XFS directory could cause a newly created file to retain the directory group ownership and inherit group-execute and SGID bits even when its creator was not a member of that group. This grants permissions beyond those intended by normal SGID-directory semantics.
