CVE-2021-47289 is a NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel ACPI device reference-counting path. A change to ACPI device matching could invoke acpi_dev_put() with a NULL device pointer. The helper did not handle NULL and passed an invalid derived pointer to put_device(), causing a kernel NULL dereference. The upstream fix changes acpi_dev_put() to silently accept NULL pointers.
