CVE-2021-47566 is a flaw in the Linux kernel proc/vmcore read path. The code cleared a user-space buffer using memset rather than the user-access-aware clear_user() helper. On x86-64 systems with Supervisor Mode Access Prevention (SMAP), this can cause a supervisor-mode page fault because the required user-access handling is absent. The issue is reproducible while reading a vmcore when a virtio-mem device has registered a vmcore callback and logically unplugged memory lies within an added Linux memory block.
