CVE-2021-47596 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel HNS3 virtual-function network driver, affecting hclgevf_send_mbx_msg. During HNS3 device removal, the client instance is uninstalled before the acceleration-engine device. The client teardown frees the associated netdevice, while acceleration-engine teardown can subsequently access that freed object to trace runtime information. The upstream fix validates the client-instance registration state before the access, preventing use of the released netdevice.
