CVE-2022-0168 is a NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel CIFS/SMB2 ioctl query-information path. In smb2_ioctl_query_info, an attacker-controlled output buffer length of zero is not rejected before memory duplication. The resulting invalid low-address pointer passes the error check and, when the PASSTHRU_SET_INFO operation is selected, is passed to SMB2_set_info_init for a memory copy. The invalid source pointer causes a kernel NULL pointer dereference and panic. The upstream correction rejects zero-length output buffers.
