CVE-2022-0854 is an information-disclosure vulnerability in the Linux kernel Software I/O Translation Lookaside Buffer (swiotlb) DMA implementation. In DMA_FROM_DEVICE handling, swiotlb can copy an entire bounce buffer back to the original user buffer even when the device did not overwrite all of that buffer. Consequently, stale kernel-memory contents in the bounce buffer may be exposed to user space. The condition was demonstrated through SCSI SG_IO requests whose declared transfer length exceeds data actually returned by the device, including TEST UNIT READY requests that perform no device-data transfer. The upstream remediation reworked swiotlb bounce-copy behavior to preserve the original buffer contents where device data is absent.
