The Sitemap by click5 WordPress plugin before version 1.0.36 exposes a REST endpoint that allows updating options without proper authorization or CSRF protection. Furthermore, the endpoint does not restrict updates to only plugin-specific options, enabling unauthenticated attackers to modify arbitrary WordPress blog options, such as 'users_can_register' and 'default_role'. This can be exploited to allow public registration and assign administrative privileges to new users, leading to full site compromise.

This repository contains a Python exploit script (CVE-2022-0952.py) targeting the 'Sitemap by click5' WordPress plugin versions below 1.0.36. The exploit leverages an unauthenticated REST API endpoint (/wp-json/click5_sitemap/API/update_html_option_AJAX) that lacks proper authorization and CSRF checks, allowing arbitrary WordPress options to be updated. The script can enable user registration and set the default role to administrator, allowing an attacker to register a new admin account and take over the site. It also provides a '--fix' option to revert the changes and disable registration. The repository includes a README with usage examples and a LICENSE file. The main exploit file is self-contained, operational, and does not rely on any external exploit framework.
