CVE-2022-24903 is a heap-based buffer overflow in Rsyslog TCP syslog reception when octet-counted framing is processed. While parsing the octet count, Rsyslog enforces a maximum count but continues writing count digits to a heap buffer after that limit has been exceeded. An attacker can therefore overrun the buffer by supplying an excessively long sequence of decimal digits before the framed message. The issue affects TCP reception functionality provided by modules including imtcp, imptcp, imgssapi, and imhttp when octet-counted framing is accepted.
