CVE-2022-27950 concerns a reported resource-retention condition in the Linux kernel HID ELO driver prior to Linux 5.16.11. On a particular hid_parse() error path, the driver retains a reference to the associated USB device. Upstream maintainers later disputed that the condition was a conventional memory leak, because the retained device reference was not usable outside the module scope, but noted that it could cause problems when the device is disconnected. The original introducing change and the initial purported fix were both determined to be incorrect and reverted upstream.
