CVE-2022-31692 is an incorrect-authorization vulnerability in Spring Security 5.7 before 5.7.5 and 5.6 before 5.6.9. Applications using AuthorizationFilter, either directly or through authorizeHttpRequests(), can fail to enforce expected authorization rules for servlet forward and include dispatches. Under the affected dispatcher configuration, a request may be forwarded or included to an endpoint protected by higher-privilege authorization rules without those rules being correctly applied.

This repository is a proof-of-concept (POC) Spring Boot application demonstrating CVE-2022-31692, an authentication bypass vulnerability in Spring Security. The project contains a minimal web application with three endpoints: '/', '/admin', and '/forward'. The '/admin' endpoint is protected and requires the ROLE_ADMIN authority, while '/' and '/forward' are open to all users. The '/forward' endpoint performs a server-side forward to '/admin'. Due to a misconfiguration in the security filter chain (specifically, applying filters to all dispatcher types including 'forward' and 'include'), a request to '/forward' can bypass authentication and authorization checks, allowing unauthorized access to the admin page. The repository includes all necessary configuration and code to demonstrate the vulnerability, with the main entry point at Cve202231692DemoApplication.java and security logic in SecurityConfig.java. No external network endpoints or IPs are hardcoded; all endpoints are local HTTP paths. The exploit is a POC and does not include weaponized payloads.
