CVE-2022-36007 is a partial path traversal vulnerability in Venice, a Clojure-inspired sandboxed Lisp dialect with Java interoperability. The issue affects the load-file and load-resource functions when Venice is configured to restrict file loading to a defined set of load paths. Relative paths are correctly validated and rejected when they resolve outside the configured load path, but absolute paths are insufficiently constrained. If an attacker supplies an absolute path whose prefix matches an allowed load path, Venice may load a file outside the intended directory boundary. For example, with an allowed load path of /Users/foo/resources, Venice correctly permits /Users/foo/resources/test.png but may also permit /Users/foo/resources-alt/test.png because the path shares the same prefix. The flaw affects Venice versions up to and including 1.10.17.
