In patrickfuller camp up to and including commit bbd53a256ed70e79bd8758080936afbf6d738767, the application exposes the password.txt file in the root directory via StaticFileHandler. The intended Tornado rule to block access with a 403 error can be bypassed, allowing attackers to retrieve the password hash. Critically, the password hash is also used as the cookie secret, enabling attackers to forge valid authentication cookies and gain unauthorized access without cracking the hash.
