CVE-2022-42720 is a use-after-free vulnerability caused by multiple reference-counting defects in multi-BSSID handling in the Linux kernel cfg80211 wireless subsystem. Affected logic can mishandle hidden-beacon and transmitted-BSS references, including overwriting a BSS pointer before validating the transmitted BSS, incorrectly releasing a copied transmitted-BSS reference, and returning a BSS object without a valid reference after failure to add it to the non-transmitted BSS list. The flaw affects Linux kernel versions 5.1 through 5.19.x before 5.19.16.
