CVE-2022-43781 is a command injection vulnerability in Atlassian Bitbucket Server and Data Center (versions 7.0 to 7.21 and 8.0 to 8.4 with mesh.enabled=false). The vulnerability arises from improper handling of environment variables when creating repositories, specifically due to the way the NuProcess library (com.zaxxer.nuprocess) processes usernames containing null bytes. Attackers able to control their username (e.g., via public signup) can inject arbitrary environment variables, such as GIT_EXTERNAL_DIFF, leading to arbitrary command execution. The vulnerability is most impactful on Windows systems, where environment variable injection can result in remote code execution (RCE) when Git operations are triggered.

This repository contains a single Metasploit module (Ruby) that exploits CVE-2022-43781, an authenticated remote code execution vulnerability in Atlassian Bitbucket Server and Data Center. The exploit leverages the ability of admin users to change their username, injecting a malicious value into the username field that sets the GIT_EXTERNAL_DIFF environment variable and appends a null byte and arbitrary code. When Bitbucket is coerced into generating a diff, the payload is executed as the 'atlbitbucket' user. The module supports multiple payload types, including direct command execution and staged payloads (reverse shells, Meterpreter) for both Linux and Windows targets. The exploit requires valid admin credentials and network access to the Bitbucket instance (default port 7990). The module is weaponized, allowing for easy payload customization and automated exploitation. The only file in the repository is the Metasploit module itself, written in Ruby, and it is structured to integrate seamlessly with the Metasploit Framework.
