GNU Emacs through version 28.2 contains a command-injection vulnerability in the etags program. The lib-src/etags.c implementation invokes the system C library function while processing source-code filenames, allowing shell metacharacters embedded in a filename to be interpreted as commands. A victim invoking etags with a wildcard command, such as "etags -u *", in a directory containing attacker-influenced files can trigger the injection.
