CVE-2022-48637 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel Broadcom NetXtreme-C/E (bnxt) network driver. In the transmit-completion path, bnxt_tx_int() transfers ownership of a completed socket buffer to a Precision Time Protocol worker when transmit timestamp retrieval is required. The PTP worker can execute and free the socket buffer before bnxt_tx_int() completes its remaining processing, leaving a stale pointer that may subsequently be dereferenced or freed. The fix explicitly clears the socket-buffer pointer after ownership is handed to the worker, preventing further use in the completion path.
