CVE-2022-48743 is a buffer underflow flaw in the Linux kernel AMD XGBE Ethernet driver. Inconsistent hardware descriptor information can cause an socket-buffer data-length underflow during receive processing. The invalid length reaches a kernel assertion and triggers a BUG condition, producing an intermittent kernel panic. The upstream correction detects the underflow and drops the affected packet instead of continuing processing.
