CVE-2022-49581 is a buffer-overflow vulnerability in the Linux kernel be2net network driver’s EEPROM retrieval path. The be_get_module_eeprom path called be_cmd_read_port_transceiver_data, which assumed that the caller-provided destination buffer was at least PAGE_DATA_LEN bytes long, or at least twice that size for SFF-8472-capable transceiver modules. This assumption was not always valid, allowing copying beyond the supplied buffer. The fix changes the interface to provide the requested offset and length, ensuring that only the requested data is copied once.
