CVE-2022-49611 is an x86 Linux kernel speculative-execution vulnerability involving Return Stack Buffer (RSB) underflow or poisoning during virtual-machine exit handling when Indirect Branch Restricted Speculation (IBRS) is used. The affected kernel behavior did not fill the RSB on VM exit, permitting an attacker to target unsafe return prediction behavior. The corrective change fills the RSB on VM exit for IBRS, preventing the identified RSB underflow and poisoning condition.

A vulnerability addressed by this Red Hat kernel security advisory; the provided content does not describe its technical impact.
A moderate-severity Linux kernel x86 speculative-execution vulnerability involving Return Stack Buffer (RSB) underflow or poisoning during VM exits when IBRS is used. Successful exploitation could bypass protection mechanisms and potentially expose otherwise inaccessible data; Red Hat's CVSS v3 score is 5.5, with local access, low attack complexity, low privileges required, and high availability impact.
