CVE-2022-50406 is a Linux kernel iomap writeback-path flaw in error recording. When writeback encounters an error, iomap can improperly handle the state used to record that error through the file mapping error sequence. The condition was observed as a NULL-pointer dereference in errseq_set(), reached via __filemap_set_wb_err(), iomap_do_writepage(), and iomap_writepages(). The defect can result in memory corruption and a kernel oops during filesystem writeback.
