CVE-2023-1079 is a use-after-free flaw in the Linux kernel ASUS HID driver’s keyboard-backlight handling. During removal of a USB device impersonating an ASUS device, the LED controller can schedule work while the associated ASUS keyboard LED structure is being freed. The subsequently executed work can dereference the freed structure, resulting in access to freed memory with attacker-controlled device data.
