CVE-2023-20872 is an out-of-bounds read/write vulnerability in the SCSI CD/DVD device emulation component of VMware Workstation and VMware Fusion. The flaw affects vulnerable releases prior to VMware Workstation 17.0.2 and VMware Fusion 13.0.2. Improper bounds handling in the virtualized SCSI CD/DVD device can allow memory to be accessed outside the intended buffer during device emulation, creating conditions for memory corruption and unintended data exposure within the hypervisor context.

This repository is a proof-of-concept (PoC) exploit for CVE-2023-20872, a VMware escape vulnerability affecting the SCSI subsystem. The main exploit is implemented as a Linux kernel module (exp.c), which interacts with the SCSI host driver and related subsystems. The repository includes a Makefile for building the kernel module and a set of header files (under 'headers/') that provide the necessary SCSI and MPI (Message Passing Interface) definitions and structures. The exploit attempts to trigger the vulnerability by issuing crafted SCSI commands and manipulating SCSI device structures, potentially allowing a guest VM to execute code on the host or escalate privileges. The exploit requires root or equivalent privileges to load the kernel module and is intended for research and demonstration purposes. No hardcoded network endpoints or IP addresses are present; all endpoints are local file paths or kernel interfaces. The code is a PoC and does not include weaponized payloads or automation for post-exploitation activities.
