CVE-2023-28772 is a buffer-overflow write vulnerability in the Linux kernel seq_buf implementation. The flaw is in seq_buf_putmem_hex() in lib/seq_buf.c, reachable through the trace_seq_putmem_hex() call flow used by debugging functionality such as ftrace. A missing destination-buffer sanity check permits data written as hexadecimal output to exceed the available destination buffer. Linux kernel versions before 5.13.3 are affected; the upstream correction is associated with commit d3b16034a24a112bb83aeb669ac5b9b01f744bb7 and was incorporated by Linux 5.14-rc1.
