CVE-2023-30845 is an authentication bypass vulnerability in Google ESPv2 (versions 2.20.0 through 2.42.0), a service proxy used for API management in Google Cloud. The vulnerability arises from improper handling of the X-HTTP-Method-Override header. If a request uses an HTTP method not defined in the API service definition, but the X-HTTP-Method-Override header specifies a valid method, ESPv2 forwards the request to the backend without enforcing JWT authentication. This allows attackers to bypass authentication controls by crafting requests with malicious X-HTTP-Method-Override values. The issue affects multiple authentication providers (Firebase, Auth0, Okta, Google ID tokens) and services (API Gateway, Cloud Run, App Engine, Cloud Functions).
