CVE-2023-3161 is an incorrect bitwise-shift vulnerability in the Linux kernel Framebuffer Console (fbcon) implementation. The fbcon_set_font() function did not validate supplied font width and height values before using them in shift operations. Supplying both dimensions greater than 32 can cause a shift-out-of-bounds condition, resulting in undefined kernel behavior and a potential denial of service.
